Appalachian Region Weekly Update

Week of May 31 – June 6, 2026

📋 This Week at a Glance

Greetings, Pathfinders and Starfinders! Con Carolinas and 1d4Con are wrapping up this weekend — thank you to everyone who played and ran games. Now we look ahead.

This week: Venture-Officer openings in Chattanooga, TN and Charleston, WV remain unfilled — and the region needs someone to step up. Several lodges across the region are short on players and GMs and need consistent support to keep their tables running. DragonCon GM and HQ volunteer recruiting is open right now — the scope of what we can offer in September depends entirely on who signs up today. The Morgantown, WV lodge is building toward its June launch. Free RPG Day is less than four weeks away. And we have 9 scheduled games across Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia — physical and virtual — going into next week.

📢 Regional Announcements & Opportunities

🎲 Con Carolinas and 1d4Con – Thanks to Everyone Who Showed Up

Con Carolinas: May 29–31 — Hilton Charlotte University Place, Charlotte, NC
1d4Con: May 29–31 — Holiday Inn Martinsburg, Martinsburg, WV

Both conventions wrap up this weekend. Thank you to the Piedmont Roleplaying Society for running Pathfinder and Starfinder Society games at Con Carolinas, and to the Frederick, MD lodge (Northeast Region) for coordinating organized play at 1d4Con. If you played or GMed at either event this weekend, well done — every table at a convention is an advertisement for organized play.

Watch lodge Discord and social channels for any post-con announcements or photos.

🚨 Venture-Officer Openings: Chattanooga, TN and Charleston, WV — We Need You Now

These two openings have been on the board for weeks. The region cannot build what it needs in these communities without local leadership. If you have been thinking about stepping up, this is the moment.

Chattanooga, TN — Existing Lodge, Needs a Leader
The Venture-Lieutenant overseeing the Chattanooga lodge has stepped down. There is already a player community here. Games have happened. The infrastructure exists. What is missing is someone to take ownership — to schedule games, keep the community connected, and be the local face of organized play. If you are in the Chattanooga area and you love Pathfinder or Starfinder Society, this is your lodge to lead. It will not stay viable on its own indefinitely.

Charleston, WV — Ground Floor Opportunity
We are working to establish a new lodge in Charleston. This is harder than inheriting an existing one, and it matters more. CharCon is July 10–12 at The Clay Center. A PFS/SFS presence there this year is unlikely without local leadership already in place — but a lodge with roots in Charleston is exactly what makes convention support possible in future years. If you are willing to be the person who builds organized play in West Virginia’s capital city, reach out now.

What being a Venture-Officer actually involves: scheduling games at a local venue, welcoming new players, keeping the lodge’s Warhorn page current, and being a point of contact for the region. You do not need to be an expert. You need to show up and care. The VO Handbook covers everything else.

Contact us at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com or through the Appalachian Region Hub. Do not wait.

🎯 Lodges That Need You at the Table — Right Now

You do not need a title to make a difference. The single most important thing you can do for organized play in this region is show up regularly, sit down at a table, and occasionally run one. The lodges below need that from you:

  • Mebane, NC — Tables are running but attendance is inconsistent and GM support is thin. If you are in the Triangle or Triad area and can make the drive, this lodge needs warm bodies in chairs.
  • Charlotte, NC — One of the largest metros in the region with significant room to grow. Con Carolinas just gave the Piedmont Roleplaying Society a public presence. Now is the time to show up at regular game days and help it build momentum.
  • Memphis, TN — Western Tennessee needs both players and GMs to keep Society play alive in the area. If organized play disappears from Memphis, it becomes much harder to bring back.
  • Nashville, TN — Strong existing interest, real potential. The schedule could be bigger with more GMs willing to step behind the screen. If you know the system and have played a few sessions, you can run a game. Nashville needs you to try.

If you are near any of these cities and have not yet found your lodge home, now is the time to show up. Reach out to the local lodge through the Lodge Directory or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com to get connected.

🐉 DragonCon 2026 — GM and HQ Volunteers: Sign Up Now

September 3–7, 2026 — AmericasMart Building 3, Atlanta, GA

DragonCon is the Premier Paizo Organized Play event in the Appalachian Region. Five days. Thousands of attendees. One of the biggest stages in the country to showcase what Pathfinder and Starfinder Society can be. And the entire scale of what we can offer — how many tables we run, which specials and scenarios we can put on, how good the experience is for every new player who walks in — is determined right now, by who volunteers.

If you wait until August to volunteer, you will have worse time slots, less influence over the schedule, and a harder experience for everyone including yourself. The GMs and HQ staff who sign up early shape DragonCon. Do not leave that to someone else.

Why volunteer:

  • Early sign-ups get first pick of time slots — run what you want, when you want.
  • Every table you run may be a player’s very first Society game. They came from across the region. Make it count.
  • HQ and operations volunteers are the backbone of the whole event: check-in, GM support, slot coordination. It is unglamorous work that makes everything else possible.
  • You will be part of a well-run regional team with experienced convention leadership behind you.

The DragonCon 2026 Volunteer Form is open right now. Fill it out. Even a few slots makes a difference. Questions? Email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

🎉 Morgantown, WV – Launch Approaching

The Morgantown lodge restart is in its final stretch. Learn to Play sessions have been running through May, with regular Pathfinder and Starfinder Society play set to launch in June at Wyvern’s Rest.

If you are in or near Morgantown and want to get involved as a player, GM, or Venture-Officer, reach out through the Appalachian Region Hub or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

🐘 We’re on Mastodon – Live Soon

The Appalachian Region Mastodon account is approved and going live shortly. We will share the handle here and across social channels as soon as it is up. If you are on the fediverse, watch this space.

🎪 Upcoming Conventions – Next 90 Days

The Regional & National Calendar tracks conventions and game days across the six-state region. Below are the conventions coming up through mid-August. If you are interested in volunteering at any of these events, contact the hosting lodge or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

📚 Free RPG Day – June 27, 2026

Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026
Where: Participating local game stores nationwide
Website: freerpgday.com/gamers

Free RPG Day is four weeks out. If you are planning around it, check the store locator now — stores must order kits in advance, and if your FLGS does not appear on the locator, they are not a participating venue this year. Free RPG Day content may only be run on the day itself at a participating venue, or one month later once it clears for general use.

🏛️ Origins Game Fair – Columbus, OH

Dates: June 17–21, 2026
Venue: Greater Columbus Convention Center — Columbus, OH
Website: originsgamefair.com

A major national convention and a significant event on the organized play calendar. If you are attending Origins, keep an eye on Paizo and organized play channels for Society event details.

🎲 CharCon – Charleston, WV

Dates: July 10–12, 2026
Venue: The Clay Center — Charleston, WV
Lodge: TBD
Website: charcon.org

With Morgantown only just coming back online, a PFS/SFS presence at CharCon this year is unlikely without a Charleston-area VO stepping up now. This is exactly why the Charleston recruitment matters so much — a lodge rooted locally is what makes future convention support possible. If you are in or near Charleston, this is the moment to get involved. Email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

🎲 Gen Con – Indianapolis, IN

Dates: July 30 – August 2, 2026
Venue: Indiana Convention Center — Indianapolis, IN
Website: gencon.com

Gen Con is one of the largest tabletop gaming conventions in the world and a centerpiece of the national organized play calendar. If you are attending, watch Paizo and organized play channels for Society event schedules and Paizo’s presence at the show.

🎰 Southern-Fried Gaming Expo – Atlanta, GA

Dates: July 31 – August 2, 2026
Venue: The Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center — Atlanta, GA
Lodge: AtlantaPFS
Website: gameatl.com

AtlantaPFS is planning organized play support at SFGE. A call for GMs and HQ volunteers is expected soon. Watch AtlantaPFS channels for details as the schedule comes together.

🐉 DragonCon – Atlanta, GA

Dates: September 3–7, 2026
Venue: AmericasMart Building 3 — Atlanta, GA
Website: dragoncon.org

The Premier Paizo Organized Play event in the Appalachian Region. GM and HQ volunteer recruiting is open now at the DragonCon 2026 Volunteer Form. Early volunteers get first pick of time slots. Do not wait.

🎯 Looking Ahead

The conventions are behind us for a few weeks, but the work is not. The region needs Venture-Officers in Chattanooga and Charleston — these are not recruiting posts to check off, they are communities that will stagnate without someone stepping up. Lodges in Mebane, Charlotte, Memphis, and Nashville need players and GMs to walk in the door. DragonCon is recruiting now and the GM roster determines the whole scope of what September looks like.

Free RPG Day is June 27 — check the store locator if you are planning around it. Origins is June 17–21. CharCon is July 10–12 and needs Charleston-area leadership to have any shot at organized play support. Gen Con and Southern-Fried Gaming Expo land at the end of July. Morgantown launches in June.

There are more ways to contribute right now than at almost any point this year. Pick one and act on it.

Lodge leadership and VOs: If your lodge has news, milestones, or events to share in a future regional update, email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com. The more you share, the better we can spotlight what is happening across the region.

Roll well, Pathfinders and Starfinders. See you at the tables. ⚔️🌟
