Appalachian Region Weekly Update – May 10–16, 2026

Appalachian Region Weekly Update

Week of May 10–16, 2026

📋 This Week at a Glance

Greetings, Pathfinders and Starfinders! The weekly update is back after a one-week gap — and there is plenty to catch up on.

This week: the Morgantown, WV lodge is reopening with Learn to Play sessions in May and Society play launching in June, MomoCon is less than two weeks away, we continue our push for DragonCon volunteers, and we have ongoing recruiting needs for Venture-Officers in Chattanooga, TN and Charleston, WV. We also have 37 scheduled games across the region this week, spread across all six states.

📢 Regional Announcements & Opportunities

🎉 Morgantown, WV – Lodge Reopening!

Big news from West Virginia: the Morgantown lodge is reopening. Learn to Play sessions are scheduled this month (May), with regular Pathfinder and Starfinder Society play launching in June at Wyvern’s Rest.

This is a ground-floor opportunity for players and GMs in the Morgantown area. Whether you are returning to a table you have not seen in a while or discovering Society play for the first time, now is the time to get connected.

If you are in or near Morgantown and want to get involved as a player, GM, or Venture-Officer, reach out through the Appalachian Region Hub or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

📍 Venture-Officer Openings – Chattanooga, TN and Charleston, WV

Two VO recruitment needs remain open and active:

Chattanooga, TN: The Venture-Lieutenant overseeing the Chattanooga lodge has stepped down. The lodge has an existing player community and we need new leadership to help keep games running and the community connected. If you are local and interested — or know someone who is — please reach out.

Charleston, WV: We are working to establish a new lodge in Charleston. CharCon (July 10–12) is a prime opportunity to build visibility for organized play in the area, but we need people on the ground in Charleston to make it happen and to build the community there long-term. If you are local and interested — or know someone who is — please reach out.

For either opportunity, contact us at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com or through the Appalachian Region Hub. For more on what Venture-Officer roles involve, the VO Handbook is a good starting point.

🎯 Lodges That Need Players and GMs

Beyond the VO openings above, several lodges across the region would benefit significantly from more regular player and GM turnout:

  • Mebane, NC – Tables are running but need more consistent attendance and GM support.
  • Charlotte, NC – A major metro with room to grow its organized play presence.
  • Memphis, TN – Western Tennessee needs both players and GMs to keep Society play visible in the area.
  • Nashville, TN – Strong potential; more regular GM support would allow the schedule to grow.

You do not have to be a Venture-Officer to make a difference. Showing up regularly as a player, stepping behind the GM screen occasionally, and helping welcome new faces is the foundation everything else is built on. If you are near any of these communities, your presence matters. Reach out to the local lodge or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com if you want to get connected.

🐉 DragonCon 2026 – GM and HQ Volunteer Recruiting

DragonCon 2026: September 3–7, 2026 – AmericasMart Building 3, Atlanta, GA

DragonCon is the Premier Paizo Organized Play event in the Appalachian Region. Five days, thousands of attendees, and one of the biggest opportunities in the region to showcase Pathfinder and Starfinder Society. The scope of what we can offer — number of tables, variety of systems, special events — depends directly on how many GMs and HQ/operations volunteers commit early.

Why volunteer at DragonCon:

  • Early volunteers get first pick of time slots.
  • Every table you run may be a player’s first Society experience — they are coming from all over the region and beyond.
  • HQ/ops staff keep the whole operation running: check-in, slot coordination, GM support.
  • You will be part of a well-coordinated regional team with experienced convention leadership.

AtlantaPFS has the DragonCon 2026 Volunteer Form open now. If you are willing to volunteer even a few slots, please sign up early so the team can plan around you. Questions? Email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

🎪 Upcoming Conventions – May, June & July

The Regional & National Calendar tracks conventions and game days across the six-state region. Below are the conventions coming up through the end of July. If you are interested in volunteering at any of these events, contact the hosting lodge or email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

Recently wrapped: Richmond Open (May 1–3, Meadow Event Park, Doswell, VA) concluded last weekend. Thanks to the Richmond & Central VA lodge and everyone who ran or played Society games there.

🎪 MomoCon – Atlanta, GA

Dates: May 21–24, 2026
Venue: Georgia World Congress Center – Atlanta, GA
Lodge: AtlantaPFS
Website: momocon.com

MomoCon is less than two weeks out. AtlantaPFS has submitted a full organized play schedule. Note that game registration is handled through tabletop.events, not Warhorn, and MomoCon is using a per-game charge model this year. Watch the GeorgiaPFS Discord for sign-up links as they go live.

Venue: Hilton Charlotte University Place – Charlotte, NC
Lodge: Piedmont Roleplaying Society
Website: concarolinas.org

A multi-genre convention with a strong gaming track. The Piedmont Roleplaying Society will be offering Pathfinder and Starfinder Society games. Con Carolinas is also an opportunity to help grow the organized play presence in Charlotte — a lodge that could use more regular support.

🎲 1d4Con – Martinsburg, WV

Dates: May 29–31, 2026
Venue: Holiday Inn Martinsburg – Martinsburg, WV
Lodge: TBD
Website: 1d4con.com

Dates: July 10–12, 2026
Venue: The Clay Center – Charleston, WV
Lodge: TBD
Website: charcon.org

CharCon is a key visibility opportunity for organized play in Charleston — exactly the kind of event that can help seed a new lodge. With the Morgantown lodge just getting back on its feet, we are actively looking for people in or near Charleston who can help support this convention and build an organized play presence in the area long-term. If you are interested in helping, this is where it starts. Contact us at rvcapparegionop@gmail.com.

🎰 Southern-Fried Gaming Expo – Atlanta, GA

🌎 National Events of Interest

📚 Free RPG Day – June 27, 2026

Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026
Where: Participating local game stores nationwide
Website: freerpgday.com/gamers

Free RPG Day is an annual event where participating stores offer free roleplaying game products and often host special events. Important: stores must order kits in advance — if your FLGS does not appear on the store locator, they did not order kits and are not a participating venue this year. Free RPG Day content may only be run on Free RPG Day itself at a participating venue, or one month later once it clears for general use. Check the locator before making plans, and contact your chosen store about their specific hours and event format.

🎲 Gen Con – Indianapolis, IN

Dates: July 30 – August 2, 2026
Venue: Indiana Convention Center – Indianapolis, IN
Website: gencon.com

Gen Con is one of the largest tabletop gaming conventions in the world and a major event on the national organized play calendar. If you are attending, keep an eye on the Paizo and organized play channels for details on Society events and Paizo’s presence at the show.

🎯 Looking Ahead

MomoCon is two weeks out. Con Carolinas and 1d4Con are at the end of the month. CharCon and Southern-Fried are in July. Gen Con lands July 30. Free RPG Day is June 27 — check the store locator now if you are planning around it. DragonCon recruiting is open. Morgantown is coming back online. And several lodges across the region need players and GMs to show up and keep tables firing.

There are a lot of ways to contribute to organized play in the Appalachian Region right now — from sitting down at a local table to volunteering for a convention to stepping into a VO role in a community that needs leadership. The update is here to help you see where you are needed most.

Lodge leadership and VOs: If your lodge has news, milestones, or events to share in a future regional update, email rvcapparegionop@gmail.com. The more you share, the better we can spotlight the great things happening across the region.

Roll well, Pathfinders and Starfinders. See you at the tables. ⚔️🌟
